Oh, I am a sigur rós lady
Northern Lights and erupting Icelandic volcano produce stunning photographs by James Appleton.
Photographer James Appleton, 23, from Cambridge, risked his life trekking solo to the area and captured these incredible shots. The Cambridge University graduate spent five days observing the first phase of the eruption from a shack in nearby Fimmvorouhals mountain pass. He spent seven hours battling biting wind and freezing temperatures to get as close to the eruption as possible, against the advice of local guides. Despite being trapped inside a shack there for 48 hours, Mr Appleton managed to trek within 100ft of the volcano.

In relation to the poetry posts, there is this Icelandic word skúffuskáld, which means someone who’s secretly a poet. It literally means “drawer poet”, someone who writes poetry but chugs it all into his desk drawer instead of showing it to people.
Eat waffles with The President of Iceland
Now this is a campaign only accomplishable in a tiny and friendly country such as Iceland. The President of Iceland launched the campaign with an address to the nation asking them to invite foreign guests into their homes or out for some play. Icelanders are supposed to go to the Inspired by Iceland website and register their invitations which visitors can then view and select.
Whether it is a private concert in your hotel room with one of my favorite singers Mugison, swimming in the sea with locals, learning to knit a lopapeysa, eat sushi with Jón Gnarr, milk some cows or go out for winter ice cream, I’m sure you’ll find someone to connect with.
The campaign was just launched today, so it will be interesting to watch the invitation list grow in the coming days. Wish I was home right now to make an invite.
Hands down one of my top five favorite songs. Still haven’t quite decided what I think the song is about, but at any rate, it sure does sooth the soul.
Seabear // “Arms”
I really like hearing Bjork talk about things. She ends with, “you shouldn’t let poets lie to you”. How very true.
This is perfect
It’s a Múm kind of night

Sometimes I miss the past, but most of the time I don’t. This is one of the times that I do.
Whenever I feel bogged down by skoolz I always find beautiful, uplifting treasures like this.
